Rate 25

A pay-for-use, interruptible distribution service for medium and large gas volume, process load and power customers.

Service Description

  • A natural gas distribution service for large gas volume, process customers that is an interruptible delivery service. The distribution service can be matched with a few supply and transportation sourcing options. By adding another rate, a customer can have both a firm base load and an interruptible load. These options provide greater flexibility for managing a customer's end use facility consumption.

Customer Type

  • The service is designed for large gas volume interruptible customers in Northwestern, Northeastern and Eastern Ontario.
  • The customer must have a minimum interruptible Contract Demand (daily consumption) of 3,000 m3 per day if they contract solely for Rate 25. A customer always has the option of pairing their Rate 25 interruptible contract with a firm Rate 20 or firm Rate 100 contract. Should they do that, the customer must have a minimum daily consumption of at least 14,000 m3 per day.
  • Rate 25 customers use natural gas for process applications. Examples of Rate 25 customers include chemical, cement and steel manufacturing as well as mining, pulp and paper and power generation. Rate 25 is not suitable for a customer that has only a heating load.

Benefits

  • Rate 25 customers have choice. They can arrange and manage a combination of supply, upstream transportation and storage options that require two levels of "hands-on" management.
    • Interruptible Sales Service - Union Gas manages all service elements. Customer purchases a full, interruptible, no-nomination service at an "all in" price (natural gas commodity and delivery of gas to customer's facility) provided Union Gas has the associated upstream transportation service.
    • Interruptible Transportation Service (T-service) – Customer sources, manages and nominates upstream gas supply and transportation to the delivery area. Union Gas manages local delivery of customer's gas from the delivery area to the customer's facility.
  • Pairing a Rate 25 contract with either a Rate 20 or Rate 100 contract provides the most flexibility as a customer can burn more gas when needed.
  • Access to on-line nominations, transactions and reports 24 x 7 through Unionline - anywhere with internet and/or mobile access.
  • Access to daily metering to help monitor and manage gas use.

Service Term

  • Minimum one-year contract.

Rates and Pricing

  • The Rate 25 delivery charge is negotiated and has a maximum limit approved by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). Union Gas cannot exceed this limit without OEB approval.
