Applying for Home Winterproofing Program

  • If you feel you meet the eligibility criteria; you can either apply online or call our authorized contractor.
  • Once you apply for the program online, our authorized service provider, GreenSaver will contact you within 2 business days for further screening. This communication will be via email or a phone call depending on your preference.

Step 2:

Pre - Screening

  • You will be further screened based on a short home assessment questionnaire.
  • Should you meet the home assessment criteria, a formal application package is mailed or sent to you electronically.

Step 3:

Formal Application Package

  • As part of your formal application, you will be required to send the following:
    • a signed Declaration and Consent form and
    • The Notice of Assessment for all household members over the age of 18 years. (You may black out your Social security number as it is not required to complete your application)
  • You could also send, one of the following documents to qualify should the Notice of assessment not be feasible for you:
    • Allowance for Seniors
    • Allowance for Survivors
    • LEAP Emergency Financial Assistance Grant
    • Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
    • Ontario Works
    • Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
    • Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)
    • Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO)

    Please note: Participation in the Program will not affect income from government assistance programs.

  • Email these documents to our authorized contractor at info@greensaver.org or remit by mail using the return envelope already sent to you.
  • Upon sending your Application Package, our authorized contractors will validate all the information. If everything is in place, they will call you to schedule an energy assessment

Step 4:

Energy Assessment

  • An agent will contact you to book an appointment with an energy advisor to perform an energy assessment of your home.
  • This assessment will take a few hours; the advisor will look at the attic, wall and foundation insulation, heating, and ventilation system.
  • If the audit reveals a need for energy efficiency upgrades in your home, an appointment will be booked with our contractors to perform the required work. If you are a tenant, we'll need permission from your landlord to proceed. This permission will be in the form of a signed Declaration and consent form from your landlord.

Step 5:

  • Based on the findings of the assessment of your home, professional contractors will visit your home to begin work. This work typically takes between one and three days. Possible improvements could include:
    • Wall insulation
    • Attic insulation
    • Basement insulation
    • Water saving items
    • Smart or programmable thermostat

Step 6:

Follow-up Visit

  • After the work has been completed, the energy advisor will visit you again to check the quality of the work and measure the new efficiency of your home.
