Fireplace Buying Tips
Fireplace design has evolved and you have many options available to customize the style and finish, energy-efficiency and location of your new fireplace.
Select a dealer
Union Gas delivers gas to your home but we do not sell, rent, or service gas appliances.
Contact a retailer or contractor registered with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) to select a fireplace.
Finding the right fit
The heat output of your fireplace is an important indicator in determining which unit to choose - a bigger fireplace is not necessarily better. Take into consideration your overall home heating needs and room size, including ceiling height. Learn about fireplace types.
Choose your level of energy-efficiency
Fireplace efficiency (FE) is the measure of a fireplace's energy-efficiency performance over an entire heating season and is expressed as a percentage. The higher the number, the more efficient the unit. Learn about fireplace energy-effliciency.
Installing a natural gas fireplace
- Your dealer may be able to handle every aspect of your installation, including arranging an authorized contractor.
- Once you have ordered your natural gas fireplace, a qualified Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) contractor, registered with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) must install the fireplace and gas services needed.
- You'll need to decide on a venting system to supply air and remove combustion gases.
