Keep your meter clear

Temperatures are dropping and snow is on the way! Always keep your natural gas meter and equipment exhaust vents clear of snow and ice—debris buildup can interrupt your natural gas service, cause an appliance to malfunction or damage your gas meter. And don’t forget to clear a path to your meter—it allows easy access for accurate meter readings or emergency situations.

To keep your meter clear, just gently brush off snow or ice with a soft broom or brush. Never use a sharp tool like an ice scraper and be careful not to bump your meter with a snow blower. And remember, as you bring out your holiday decorations, keep boxes and other items away from your furnace, water heater and thermostat. Keep the space around them clear in case your heating contractor needs to access them for service or repairs, or Enbridge Gas needs to relight them after a meter change.
