Burlington-Oakville Pipeline

Inspecting pipe

Project Phase: In-Service

To secure continued, reliable transportation of natural gas for the communities of Milton, Oakville and Burlington, Union Gas has completed construction of an almost 12 kilometre, 20-inch diameter pipeline and upgraded a related pressure station facility.

Key Facts

  • Ensure continued reliable delivery of natural gas
  • Improve access to abundant, affordable gas
  • Safety a top priority during construction, operation
  • Community engagement a priority

The pipeline connects our existing Dawn-Parkway transmission pipeline to the Burlington-Oakville distribution network, strengthening the system and ensuring a secure connection to abundant natural gas reserves.

Union Gas held public information sessions to gather input about the proposal, with the latest on Nov. 13, 2014, in Oakville. These sessions were designed to inform all interested stakeholders and the broader community about the Burlington-Oakville project. We thank all of those who attended.

In the coming years, Union Gas is investing hundreds of millions of dollars to improve the reach and reliability of our pipeline system in Ontario.

Local communities will continue to benefit from reliable access to affordable natural gas, and the incremental taxes that Union Gas will pay annually.

In December 2014, we submitted an application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). On Jan. 13, 2015, we issued a notice of application. On Dec. 17, 2015, the OEB approved the project. Construction of the pipeline began in the spring of 2016 and was completed at the end of October 2016.

We feel confident that our company's efforts at Burlington-Oakville with regard to safety, environment, community engagement and construction will continue to meet the high standards and strong values we carry into each and every Union Gas project.
