Union Gas Pledges An Initial $200,000 To United Way Chatham-Kent 2017 Campaign

'Pacesetter' donation kicks-off annual employee-led campaign

Chatham, ON, September 11, 2017 – Union Gas kicked-off fundraising efforts for the United Way of Chatham-Kent 2017 Campaign with a $200,000 Pacesetter pledge. This pledge represents a portion of the funds to be raised through the company's annual employee-led campaign.

Union Gas announced the pledge at the United Way 2017 Campaign kick-off held at The Kent 1874 in Chatham on September 8. Members of Chatham-Kent municipal council, United Way board members, funded agency partners, staff and volunteers, as well as this year's United Way Campaign Chair Elizabeth Downey Sunnen, were present at the celebration.

"Union Gas is an enthusiastic supporter of United Way Chatham-Kent and the work they do strengthen our community," said Ian Ross, Union Gas United Way Campaign Chair. "Every year our employees, retirees and volunteers give of themselves to raise money to help support those in need."

United Way invests in programs that have a wide range of impact. United Way funding supports a network of agencies that provide vital programs to thousands of people in the region - single parents, abused women, families, young children and teenagers, the elderly, the physically challenged, the homeless.  United Way of Chatham-Kent has established a goal of $1,725,000 for the 2017 campaign.

"When it comes to launching the annual fund-raising campaign, it’s comforting to know that Union Gas and its employees will be right there beside us,” said Karen Kirkwood-Whyte, CEO, United Way Chatham-Kent. "Thanks to a robust employee workplace campaign, boosted by volunteer support for Operation BackPacks, fundraising events like a Golf Tournament for United Way, a Dawn Plant Fish Fry … and so much more, Union Gas sets a great example for other local corporations by stepping up to help United Way ensure that one in three Chatham-Kent residents continue to find hope, joy, strength and belonging!"
