CAMBRIDGE, ON, October 26, 2017 - Union Gas supports rare Charitable Research Reserve's efforts to preserve, protect, restore and improve natural resources and the environment in the Waterloo Region, courtesy of a $5,000 grant.

"At Union Gas, the energy we deliver comes from nature, so we understand the importance of conservation," said Murray Costello, district manager Waterloo/Brantford, Union Gas. "We believe that environmental conservation is simply the right thing to do, for this generation and generations to come."
The rare Charitable Research Reserve is constructing a lot-level storm water management demonstration garden system at their Springbank Farm location, adjacent to North House, which will be used in the instruction of homeowners, developers, and the general public about wise, small-scale storm water management efforts. This will address an identified need in local municipalities and their focus on efforts to manage water on a per-property basis. The construction will also form a cornerstone of rare's Pollinator Conservatory and emphasize storm water management as a component of wise residential landscape design, including an outdoor learning space. The new space was designed with the help of REEP Green Solutions.
"We are so thankful for the fantastic partnership with Union Gas and their kind support," said Stephanie Sobek-Swant, Executive Director of rare. "The gift will ensure we can implement a site-specific design with components that demonstrate the functional beauty of rain gardens, which will inspire more people to build them and help our entire watershed."
