Union Gas Supports Fire Safety Programs In Haldimand County With A $1,500 Grant

Cayuga, ON, October 10, 2017 - Union Gas supports Fire Safety Program in Haldimand County with a $1,500 grant to Haldimand County Emergency Services and Fire Prevention Bureau.

"We make it a priority to support important and much-needed programs like Haldimand County Fire Prevention Sparky Program, spreading the word about fire safety through our children," said Dan Sutcliffe, utility service manager Dunnville, Union Gas. "At Union Gas, safety is a top priority, and we are committed to keeping ourselves, our teams and our communities safe."

The Haldimand County Fire Department consist of 284 volunteer firefighters operating 40 fire apparatus from 11 stations, making it one of the largest volunteer fire departments in Ontario. One of its most important programs is the Sparky School initiative, teaching, with the help of Sparky the Fire Dog, the importance of fire safety to Grades one and two students throughout Haldimand County. In 2016 Fire Prevention Education was presented in 27 classes, educating 565 students and 41 teachers through 81 presentations.

"This generous donation from Union Gas helps to strengthen our collaborative partnership," said Captain Alan Krajcir, fire prevention officer/inspector and public educator coordinator, Haldimand County Emergency Services.  "This contribution allows us to provide educational material reflecting fire safety awareness, the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through our Sparky School Program."
