Union Gas Supports Walpole Island First Nation With Donation of Natural Gas Generator

CHATHAM, ON, November 14, 2017 - Union Gas supports Walpole Island First Nation with the donation of a natural gas generator to provide electrical generation for their sports complex. The generator will provide power to the building known as the "Arena" which is used as an emergency community gathering space in the event of a power outage.

"Whether it's working together on infrastructure projects, contributing as leaders in the business community or supporting local charities and non-profit groups, Union Gas feels strongly about working with our neighbours to help make our great communities even better. That's why we support Walpole Island First Nation community with this donation," remarked Sean Collier, district manager, Union Gas.

"Walpole Island First Nation (WIFN) would like to offer a Chi Miigwetch to Union Gas for their generous donation of a natural gas generator. This vital piece of equipment will help WIFN with its goal to provide shelter to community members in the event of a power outage. This is especially important with the coming winter season. The need for WIFN to be prepared for a possible power grid failure was a high priority. With the Arena's addition of a self-sustaining generator, we now have three buildings designated as emergency shelters in the community," said Michael Dashner, director of operations, WIFN.

Union Gas is committed to investing in the communities it serves through a comprehensive community relations program that includes donations for charitable organizations, sponsorships, in-kind contributions and volunteerism. The company supports everything from annual United Way campaigns to local conservation areas and food banks, from programs that teach children about safety to ones that bring them closer to nature.
