The Children's Safety Village bike safety program teaches rules of the road, understanding traffic signs, signals and even round-abouts, bicycle hand signals, helmet safety and bike checks. Helmet safety is an important aspect of the program because it teaches children the importance of a proper fitting helmet and the benefits of wearing a helmet. Children apply the lessons learned through participation in the outdoor portion of the program, riding bikes and scooters through the Village practicing the rules of the road and hand signals. One of the objectives of the program is for children to take the lessons home and share with their families, helping to keep everyone safe.
"The Safety Village is honoured to receive on-going support from Union Gas. They are actively involved with the Village and have sponsored and/or supported many projects through Helping Hands in Action, Children's Hero Awards and Halloween in the Village. We are so grateful for the generous support you continue to provide and for your commitment to helping the children in the Waterloo Region stay safe," said Constable Carol Grandy, police educator, Children's Safety Village. "These funds will help to update our equipment for the children to better their learning experiences while visiting the Village."
