Union Gas Helps Oakville Fire Department Kick Off Fire Prevention Week With $2,500 Grant

Oakville, ON, September 24, 2016 - Union Gas joined the Oakville Fire Department at their Annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff, helping support their efforts to educate residents of Oakville on the importance of having carbon monoxide alarms and smoke detectors in their home, courtesy of a $2,500 grant.

Oakville Fire department's intent in hosting the Fire Prevention Week Kick-off is to educate the public about the basic essential elements of smoke and CO alarm safety. The importance of early detection is not overstated, working smoke and CO alarms can be the difference between life or death.
"Education is the first line of defense and we need to deliver messages to the community that address misconceptions that have put our residents at greater risk of fire and CO poisoning," said Fire Chief Brian Durdin. "Union Gas' grant will support this community event and our prevention efforts to have these life saving devices installed, tested and maintained in Oakville residents homes."
