Union Gas supports the Town of Espanola with a $2,000 grant to Espanola Fire Department for a public safety awareness programs focused on "Call Before You Dig" and the importance of carbon monoxide (CO) alarms.
"At Union Gas, safety governs everything we do, whether we are building a pipeline or installing a gas meter at your home," said Marc Tonelli, Union Gas utility services manager. "And we share that commitment by supporting local firefighters in their efforts to help us all stay safe."
The Espanola Fire Department, which is made up of 28 volunteer fire fighters, respond to a wide range of different calls, including natural gas leaks and CO calls. Much has been done to educate the public and the residents of Espanola on both of these types of emergencies, but the department continues to receive calls on these matters.
"This generous donation from Union Gas helps to strengthen our collaborative partnership. We will be using the funds to promote and educate area residents on such things as the importance of "Call Before You Dig", and also the proper use and installation of mandatory CO alarms. Training and awareness, related to these matters are important for the fire department and for Union Gas," said Mike Pichor, Espanola fire chief. "Working together we are better equipped to keep our community informed and safe."
