The Haldimand County Fire Prevention "Sparky Program" provides a great safety initiative for first and second grades within Haldimand County Schools.  The children have an opportunity to take Sparky the talking fire dog and backpack home for a week.  This program encourages family interaction on fire safety in the home and to share their experience with classmates and a Haldimand County Fire Prevention Educator.  The program teaches some 700 students in Haldimand County fire safety and the importance of smoke alarms and home escape planning.  Union Gas' grant will allow H.C.F.P to obtain more Sparky and Backpacks to replace worn Sparky."

"This grant will allow us to upgrade our Sparky School Programs and continue to teach children the importance of fire safety and the dangers of fire," said Alan Krajcir, Haldimand County Emergency Services fire prevention officer.
