"Union Gas has a legacy of giving, a legacy which makes the communities we serve in Ontario stronger and healthier," said Chris Minor, district manager Northeast, Union Gas.

"Our culture of giving ensures United Way can continue to make critical investments with hundreds of organizations that help people every single day in Sudbury and Nipissing Districts," Minor added.

The company's United Way 2016 theme, "We Give Today, To Improve Tomorrow," captured the ultimate goal of the campaign, but it also captured employees' spirit of giving.

Numerous fundraising events led by employees were held throughout the year to raise money for United Way, which provides vital services in the community and across the province.

"Employees enjoy these events. They are fun, but they are also raising money for an organization that is essential in the province when it comes to helping those who need assistance," said Minor.

Spectra Energy, Union Gas' parent company, matches each individual donation dollar for dollar, and those matching dollars go to local United Ways.

United Way focuses on addressing local challenges within local communities. We could not successfully do this without the support of our wonderful community partners and the individuals within those businesses who coordinate fundraising events, participate in payroll giving, and promote an overall culture of giving," said Katina Matheson, community Coordinator, United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts. "Union Gas is an exemplary United Way champion and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support and dedication to local causes in our community."

Funds will go to support United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts funded agencies and programs that address the needs of the community they service with the mission to improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action.
