Union Gas Rasises Over $590,000 For United Way of Chatham-Kent

Company employees show generous nature once again during 2016 campaign

Chatham, ON, NOVEMBER 16, 2016 - Union Gas employees and retirees showed their generous nature once again by raising $591,125 for United Way of Chatham-Kent in 2016.

"Union Gas has a legacy of giving, a legacy which makes the 400 local communities we serve in Ontario stronger and healthier," said Union Gas President Steve Baker after making the announcement at the company's head office in Chatham.

"Our culture of giving ensures United Way can continue to make critical investments with hundreds of organizations that help people every single day in Chatham-Kent," Baker added.

The company's United Way 2016 theme, "We Give Today, To Improve Tomorrow," captured the ultimate goal of the campaign, but it also captured employees' spirit of giving.

Numerous events were held throughout the year at the Chatham-Kent offices, including auctions, bake sales and other fun activities.

"Employees enjoy these events. They are fun, but they are also raising money for an organization that is vital in our community when it comes to helping those who need assistance," said Baker.

"Year after year, Union Gas and its employees are there for our local United Way, its partner programs and direct services." said Karen Kirkwood-Whyte, CEO, United Way of Chatham-Kent. "As we strive to improve lives and build community, our efforts are supported - not only by gifts of treasure, but through gifts of time and talent shared through committee work and special events.  What a wonderful example this valuable employer and its people set for others.  On behalf of the one in three citizens who benefit from your ongoing contributions, we say THANK YOU!"

Spectra Energy, Union Gas' parent company, matches each individual donation dollar for dollar, and those matching dollars go to local United Ways.

In addition to providing natural gas delivery services and energy efficiency programs for homes and businesses, Union Gas contributes to the province through economic investments, available jobs, municipal taxes, volunteer hours and sponsorships.

Funds will go to support 18 agencies programs and 13 United Way direct services, working together to improve lives and build community in Chatham-Kent. For more information, visit uwock.ca or on Twitter and Facebook.
