In June 2004, the Hamilton Fire Department announced the launch of the 'Alarmed and Ready' smoke alarm program. Through the program, Hamilton firefighters install smoke alarms and/or smoke alarm batteries in homes where homeowners, who because of financial reasons, age, physical or mental limitations, cannot install or purchase their own. The installation is provided at no cost to the homeowner and takes only minutes to complete.

"I am extremely pleased to announce today that Union Gas has committed to continue to assist Hamilton Fire Department in the 'Alarmed & Ready' Program with additional funding in the amount of $2,500 towards the purchase of smoke alarms and batteries," said Frank Biancucci, assistant deputy chief, Hamilton Fire Department.  "This important funding supports our goal of installing smoke alarms/batteries to protect vulnerable citizens from the ravages of fire in their home."
