Union Gas Supports Pathways To Education Program With A $4,000 Grant
Hamilton, ON, May 2, 2016 - Union Gas supports the Pathway to Education Program, an innovative program designed to end the cycle of poverty for youth and their families by improving graduation rates among high school students from economically disadvantaged communities, at the North Hamilton Community Health Centre with a $4,000 grant.
"At Union Gas, we believe that investing in education creates lasting benefits for people and communities," said Mark Egbedeyi-Emmanuel, district manager Hamilton/Halton, Union Gas. "We're thrilled to support important educational programs in the communities we serve, such as the Pathway to Education Program which is helping youth here in Hamilton reach their full potential."
Pathways, is designed to help reduce poverty and its effects by lowering the dropout rate among high school students from economically disadvantaged communities and increase participation in post-secondary programs. It has been established in two neighbourhoods in North Hamilton starting with the 2009/2010 school year. What makes the Pathways program work is its comprehensive and integrated approach structured around four pillars of support: academic support through tutoring in core subjects; social support through workshops, events and community engagement; financial support through post-secondary scholarships and bus tickets/food vouchers, and one-on-one, individual mentoring support through a Pathways Coach.
"On behalf of the youth who will benefit from this generous donation, we would like to thank Union Gas. This support will enable young people to access education with the goal of employability, which will break the cycle of poverty," said Elizabeth Beader, Chief Executive Officer of North Hamilton Community Health Centre. "By working with our community partner, Union Gas, we are creating healthy, vital communities."
