Union Gas Supports "Think Skills.... Think Future" Young Women's Conference With A $5,000 Grant To Skills Ontario

Kitchener, ON, May 2, 2016 - Union Gas supports "Think Skills…Think Future" with a $5,000 grant to Skills Ontario to help fund  programs that encourage young women to pursue career opportunities in the skilled trades and technology sectors.

"At Union Gas we believe that investing in the future of our youth is an investment worth making," said Murray Costello, district manager Waterloo/Brantford, Union Gas. "We're proud to be partnering with Skills Ontario to continue our support of the Young Women's Conference, which will help young women discover the many opportunities available in the skilled trades and technology fields."

The "Think Skills...Think Future!" Young Women's Conference, held in conjunction with the Ontario Technological Skills Competition, is dedicated to showing female students that skilled trade and technology careers offer many great opportunities. In a friendly, casual environment, students are able to explore career options and practice their networking skills as they meet women who work in skilled trade and technology careers. These mentors discuss the rewards of their chosen career paths and provide advice, guidance and inspiration.

"Encouraging young women to consider a career in the skilled trades and technologies is a key, strategic initiative of Skills Ontario," says Gail Smyth, the Executive Director of Skills Ontario.  "The financial support we receive from Union Gas sends a strong message to our stakeholders and the corporate community that they believe involving young women in these careers is imperative to the economic viability of Ontario."
