Union Gas Promotes Safety By Providing $1,500 To Guelph Fire Department To Purchase Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms

GUELPH, ON, March 10, 2016 - Union Gas supports Guelph Fire Department with a $1,500 grant for the purchase of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for their safety awareness program.

"At Union Gas, safety governs everything we do, whether we are building a pipeline or installing a gas meter at your home," said Shawn Artt, utility services manager Guelph, Union Gas. "Because of our safety culture, we make it a priority to support our local communities and much-needed programs like this one, helping keep Guelph residences safe."

The Guelph Fire Department is committed to ensuring that all of the citizens of Guelph, especially our most vulnerable demographics, are protected by functioning smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. When department staff encounter a home without a working smoke alarm, a free alarm is provided and installed.  When homes are found without a working CO alarm, one will be loaned to the home owner until they can purchase their own.

"This generous donation from Union Gas helps to strengthen our program, ensuring a new supply of much-needed alarms and supports our efforts to keep our citizens safe in their own homes," said Andy MacDonald, fire chief and emergency services general manager, Guelph Fire Department.
