Ontario Energy Board Approves Union Gas' Leamington Expansion Project
$12.3 million expansion will provide additional natural gas service in the Leamington, Kingsville, Mersea Township and Gosfield South areas
CHATHAM, ON, July 06, 2016 - Union Gas announced today that the Ontario Energy Board has approved its Leamington Expansion Project (EB-2016-0013). This expansion will provide additional natural gas service in the Leamington, Kingsville, Mersea Township and Gosfield South areas and will serve an increased demand for natural gas in the local greenhouse agribusiness. Union Gas last expanded its pipeline capacity in the Leamington area in 2013.
The $12.3 million project includes the construction of a new 12-inch diameter natural gas pipeline and associated facilities, which will provide additional capacity of 51,900 m3/h or the estimated equivalent of approximately 570 acres of greenhouses. Construction will begin July 2, 2016 and is expected to take three to four months to complete.
"The Leamington Expansion Project will bring much-needed capacity to the region and specifically the local agribusiness" said Sean Collier, district manager, Windsor Chatham, Union Gas. "We're pleased that the Ontario Energy Board recognized this need and approved the project."
The pipeline route will run from the existing Union Gas County Road 14 Station west of Highway 77 south along the abandoned railway/recreational trail to a new station to be constructed north of County Road 18 - a distance of approx. 7km.
Union Gas has been bringing safe, reliable and clean burning natural gas to homes and businesses to this area for over 100 years, and will apply all of its expertise and experience towards this project.
