Tecumseh, ON, December 13, 2016 - Union Gas supports the Town of Tecumseh with a $1,675 grant to Tecumseh Fire Rescue Service for the purchase of carbon monoxide alarms for distribution to families in need within the community.

"At Union Gas, safety governs everything we do, whether we are building a pipeline or installing a gas meter at your home," said Sean Collier, district manager Chatham/Windsor, Union Gas. "Because of our safety culture, we make it a priority to support our local firefighters, helping to save lives in the community."

This is the second year that Union Gas has provided a grant for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. In 2015, thirty-three alarms were provided to seniors in the former Sandwich South. Tecumseh Fire Rescue urges all residents to ensure that they have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms especially with the arrival of cold weather as fireplaces, faulty furnaces and dry Christmas trees are leading causes of alarms in the winter.

"This grant will allow us to continue our efforts to reach out to all seniors and families in need of carbon monoxide alarms within the community," said Chief Doug Pitre, Tecumseh Fire Rescue Service.  "Tecumseh Fire Rescue is working closely with the local Goodfellows in the next few weeks to deliver baskets and this support may afford us the opportunity to provide carbon monoxide alarms to those in need."
