Union Gas Donates $2,000 To Cobourg Fire Department For Fire Prevention and Public Education Programs
Cobourg, ON, April 21, 2016 - Union Gas supports the Cobourg Fire Department with a $2,000 grant to support their Fire Prevention and Public Education Programs including the purchase of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
"At Union Gas, safety governs everything we do, whether we are building a pipeline or installing a gas meter at your home," said Ed Gouweloos, utility services construction manager, Union Gas. "Because of our safety culture, we make it a priority to support our local communities and much-needed programs like this one, helping keep Cobourg residences safe."
The Cobourg Fire Department is a composite department consisting of a fire chief, a deputy chief, a fire prevention officer, an emergency planner, 12 full-time firefighters, 16 volunteer firefighters and one administrative assistant. The department has a very proactive Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm program that was implemented to assist with protecting the citizens of Cobourg. The department will also purchase red plastic fire helmets as part of their Public Education Program to give to children at public education events. Each child leaves with a helmet and important fire safety knowledge.
"The Cobourg Fire Department is very appreciative of this generous donation made by Union Gas. The donation will help ensure that our firefighters have a good supply of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms available," said Captain Aaron Blair, fire prevention officer, Cobourg Fire Department. "The primary goal of the program is to never leave a home unprotected without operational alarms."
