Increase Contribution to Emergency Heating Fund in Sault Ste. Marie

Additional donation made mid-way through program to assist with greater need

April 6, 2010

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Union Gas today announced that it will top up its original donation to the 2009-2010 Winter Warmth program in order to help low-income customers in Sault Ste. Marie facing difficulties paying their winter natural gas bills.  Union Gas will also extend the program by one month to June 30, 2010, to provide customers in need with additional time to access the program.

Including this contribution, Union Gas will have provided $21,000 for the Winter Warmth program in Sault Ste. Marie this year, and close to $500,000 province-wide.

"We are responding to the needs of the community with more people seeking assistance this year," said Doug French, District Manager, Union Gas. "The new funding will really make a difference for low-income customers who may have faced difficulties paying their heating bills this winter."

Through the Winter Warmth program, delivered by local United Ways and partner agencies, customers can receive financial assistance of up to $450 per household.

In addition to participating in the Winter Warmth Program, Union Gas also promotes conservation as one of the most powerful, long-term solutions to permanently lower natural gas use. Union Gas provides a range of tools and education to give consumers the power to take control and manage their energy use.  For more information, visit
