Carbon monoxide is also known as the “silent killer” because you can’t see, smell or taste it, but it can cause serious harm or even death.

The best way to protect yourself and your employees from CO poisoning is to get your furnace and all other fuel-burning equipment in your business inspected annually and repaired by a Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) registered heating contractor.

Be sure to have CO alarms installed on every level of your business. Remember, CO alarms will only detect carbon monoxide. Detecting a natural gas leak requires a natural gas or a combined natural gas/CO alarm.

You should also regularly ensure outside exhaust vents, flues and chimneys are clear of nests, leaves or any other debris.
