Blocked sewer? Avoid damaging a gas line
If you need to clear a blocked sewer, be sure to make the free call for safety first. The underground natural gas line may intersect the sewer or septic pipe outside your building. This is called a cross bore – not a safety risk if left undisturbed.
But if the gas line is damaged by motorized or water-jetting equipment used to unclog the sewer, you could have a dangerous gas leak on your hands.
To prevent the risk of a gas leak, explosion or fire, call Ontario One Call toll‑free at 1‑800‑400‑2255.
They’re on duty 24/7 so urgent calls like these can be dealt with right away. A free on-site inspection will be carried out promptly, and then work on your sewer can be completed safely.
