Customer Type

  • The service is designed for medium gas volume commercial and industrial customers in Southern Ontario with the ability to interrupt their gas deliveries. When Union Gas issues a notice of interruption, the customer must stop burning natural gas.
  • Customers must have a daily Contract Demand (CD) between 2,400 m3 and 60,000 m3 and must take delivery or pay for the equivalent of consuming at least 350,000 m3 per year.
  • Many Rate M5A customers use natural gas for manufacturing applications. Examples of Rate M5A customers include manufacturing, automotive, institutional, and greenhouse operations.

Benefits

  • Rate M5A customers can choose to arrange and manage a combination of supply and upstream transportation options that require differing levels of “hands-on” management. These options include:
    • Sales Service – Union Gas manages all service elements. Customer purchases a full no-nomination service at an “all in” price (natural gas commodity, transmission and local delivery of gas to customer’s facility).
    • Bundled Transportation Service (BT Service) – Customer sources and nominates upstream gas supply, Union Gas manages transmission and local delivery of gas to the customer’s facility.
  • For a customer that cannot be interrupted completely, or cannot shed their entire gas load, having some firm capacity allows the customer to continue burning firm gas during an interruption.
  • Access to on-line nominations, transactions and reports 24 x 7 through Unionline - anywhere with Internet and/or mobile access.
  • Access to daily metering to help monitor and manage gas use.
  • Access to a variety of transactional services provides customers additional fl exibility and may let customer get more out of the market opportunities with these supply, transportation, and balancing options.

Service Term

  • Minimum one-year contract.
  • A longer term commitment may be required for the initial contract should an upfront capital investment by Union Gas be required.

Rates and Pricing

  • Rate M5A is cost-based and subject to Ontario Energy Board oversight, meaning any changes to the rates and pricing are subject to OEB approval.
