For more than 60 years, the Stratford Festival has been delighting and inspiring audiences of all ages - and Union Gas has been a proud member of the ensemble for 47 of those years.

The Festival held its inaugural performance in 1953, when Academy Award-winning actor Sir Alec Guinness uttered the famous opening lines of Shakespeare's Richard III: "Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this son of York."

From that amazing beginning, the Festival has gone on to become North America's premier repertory theatre as well as an iconic presence on the Canadian cultural landscape.

Over the years, appearances by such noted actors as Maggie Smith in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Christopher Plummer in A Word or Two have further enhanced the Festival's international stature and Stratford's reputation as a dynamic community.

A long partnership

"For almost half of our history, which spans more than 100 years, we've partnered with the Festival to enrich the lives of Canadians, of aspiring young artists and of theatre lovers from around the world," says Steve Baker, President of Union Gas. "As a company dedicated to being an active community member, we couldn't be prouder of our 47-year partnership with the Festival."

In celebration of that partnership, Union Gas is proud to be this year's co-sponsor of Guys and Dolls.  Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, this dance spectacular travels from Times Square to Havana, Cuba – where all bets are off . Featuring "Luck Be a Lady" and "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat", runs from April 15 to October 29.

"Stratford is proud to partner with companies like Union Gas who truly value and believe in creating exemplary theatre experiences that not only inspire and feed the soul but are deeply relevant to, and reflective of, our lives and communities," adds Anita Gaffney, Executive Director of the Stratford Festival.

"At Union Gas, we believe in actively supporting all of the communities in which we operate all across the province," adds Baker. "That's why we partner with institutions like the Festival, which has helped make Stratford such a vibrant place in which to live and work."

Join us at Guys and Dolls and help us say "Bravo!" to the Festival for its six decades of success.
