Union Gas Partners with Skills Work! for Aboriginal Youth

Skills Canada - Ontario participant

Skills Canada - Ontario participant.

For more than 10 years, Skills Canada – Ontario has been working to raise young people's awareness of the career opportunities in skilled trades and technologies through the Skills Work! What’s Out There in the Skilled Trades and Technologies? program.

Through a 45-60 minute multimedia presentation that uses interactive dialogue, eye-opening statistics, a quiz challenge and inspiring videos showcasing careers in skilled trades and technologies, the program delivers information about:

  • Trends in the world of work and the demand for skilled people;
  • The benefits of careers in the skilled trades and technologies;
  • Steps to apprenticeship;
  • The importance of employability skills;
  • Resources for further exploration.

In 2011, seeing a need in the community, Skills Canada – Ontario built on the program to expand its reach to Aboriginal youth. Skills Work! for Aboriginal Youth gives Aboriginal youth the opportunity to develop the hands-on skills they need to succeed in a changing job market.

On May 3rd, 2016, Union Gas presented $20,000 to Skills Canada - Ontario to fund the program.

As part of our commitment to building long-term mutually beneficial relationships with members of First Nations and Métis communities, Union Gas partners with Skills Canada – Ontario to support the Skills Work! For Aboriginal Youth program.
