The information provided below will help you to understand more about import/export requirements and the organizations to contact for further assistance.

TAXES

Union Gas may be able to provide some information with respect to expanding operations into Ontario. Contact your Account Manager for further information.

IMPORT/EXPORT

US Department of Energy (DOE)

Generally, the DOE requires that, prior to the export of natural gas to Canada, a permit or authorization for gas exports from the US into Canada be obtained. After receipt of the permit or authorization, on an ongoing basis (usually monthly), the DOE may require the permit holder to report the quantities of gas exported, the locations of export, and the value of the natural gas exported. This reporting is usually accomplished through the use of Excel files and email submissions. More information is available on the DOE website.

National Energy Board (NEB)

Generally, the NEB requires that, prior to the export of natural gas to the US a permit or authorization for gas exports from Canada into the US be obtained. After receipt of the permit or authorization, on an ongoing basis (usually monthly), the NEB may require the permit holder to report the quantity of gas exported, the locations of export, as well as the transportation and commodity value of the gas exported. This reporting is usually accomplished through the use of Excel files and fax or courier submissions. The NEB does not currently accept electronic submissions. More information is available on the NEB website.
