Dawn - A World Class Facility
Located 35 km (22 miles) southeast of Sarnia, the Union Gas Dawn Facility is a world class natural gas trading “hub” with over 10 PJs of trading activity per day. Union Gas' facilities are fully integrated into the North American supply and transportation system providing our Shippers with a deep and liquid market and significant supply options.
Ten major pipelines have interconnections in the
Dawn area providing a variety of supply
options
and a market hub for all Shippers. This integration means Shippers can
source natural gas from all
major North American supply basins and transport gas downstream to
markets in
Eastern Canada and the Northeastern United States, or
upstream, to markets in the mid-western United States.
The Union Gas Dawn facility features more than 166 PJs of high deliverability storage in 23 depleted reservoirs, the largest underground natural gas storage facility in Canada. These reservoirs are interconnected to the Dawn central compressor station and act as one integrated system providing Union Gas' storage Shippers higher deliverability and greater reliability than any single storage pool could provide.
To get your gas to you when you need it, compressor stations at Dawn, combined with those along the Union Gas Dawn to Parkway pipeline system, deliver a ‘whopping’ 425,000 horsepower of compression. That’s equivalent to 315 megawatts of power--or enough energy to power 50,000 homes.
The integrated nature of Union Gas' storage and transmission systems ensures our Shippers contract demands are met during peak times and allows Union Gas to offer our Shippers flexible and customized storage services to meet their needs.
