- Installation
Once
you have ordered your natural gas range, you need a qualified Heating
Venting and Air Conditioning (HVAC) professional to install it. Your
retailer may be able to handle every aspect of your installation
including contracting an HVAC professional. If this service is not
offered or you prefer to handle it yourself, you can easily arrange for
installation by taking these steps.
- Find an HVAC
contractor by looking in the yellow pages, asking for references
from neighbours or by visiting the Heating, Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Institute of Canada
website at
www.hrai.ca
- Arrange to have at
least three HVAC companies come to your home to give you a full
estimate on installing your natural gas range
- Ask each HVAC
contractor to supply you with their Technical Standards and Safety
Authority (TSSA) registration number. To confirm this information
call TSSA at 800-268-1142
- Ask each HVAC
professional to include in their estimate the full price of
installation included the cost of permits and inspections where
required. Get your estimate in writing including job start,
estimated completion date, number of people who will work on the
job, payment policy, warranties on parts and labour.
- Ask each HVAC
professional you have to your home how long they have been in
business, what the warranty they offer includes and who honours it,
if they are bonded, how much liability insurance they carry and if
they have payment plans. As well, enquire if they have 24 hour
service available.
- Decide which HVAC
professional you feel most comfortable giving the installation
project to. Common sense dictates that the lowest price is not
always your best value. Choose carefully based on the information
provided and references given.
- When you have chosen
an HVAC professional for the job get a written contract and insist
that all parties sign it.
If you have chosen an electronic
ignition system or electronic clocks or functions, you will require a
120 V receptacle. Cooktop venting is not required but a vent hood that
removes grease, moisture and odour to the outside is recommended.
A natural gas hook up is required for a new natural
gas range. This is a simple, quick process that requires the services of
a Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning contractor. Often the
retailer that sells you the natural gas range will have installation
services available to you.
The costs of installing a natural
gas hook up in your kitchen varies on how complex the job is but expect
to pay between $150-$250. Remember once you have the gas hook-up
installed you’ll never need to do it again.
