
Natural Gas Furnaces - Buying Tips
If the last time you shopped for a furnace was over a
decade ago you’ll notice that furnace technologies have changed. Older
furnaces were often oversized for the home they were heating. That means
you may not want to replace your furnace to the same specifications.
The most important step you need to take in selecting a furnace is to call at least three Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) contractors to come to your home for measuring and furnace recommendations.
When the contractor is at your home they will:
* AFUE ratings - The Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating measures the amount of fuel converted to space heat in proportion to the amount of fuel entering the furnace. This is commonly expressed as a percentage. Energy Star labeled furnaces must meet or exceed 90% AFUE energy efficiency rating.
