Natural Gas Fireplaces - Installation

Step by Step and Simple:
Once you have ordered your natural gas fireplace, you need a qualified Heating Venting and Air Conditioning (HVAC) contractor to install it. Your retailer may be able to handle every aspect of your installation including contracting an HVAC contractor. If this service is not offered or you prefer to handle it yourself, you can easily arrange for installation by taking these steps.

  1. Find an HVAC contractor by asking for references from neighbours or by visiting the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada at www.hrai.ca
  2. Arrange to have at least three HVAC companies come to your home to give you a full estimate on installing your natural gas fireplace
  3. Ask each HVAC contractor to supply you with their Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) registration number. To confirm this information call TSSA at 800-268-1142
  4. Ask each HVAC contractor to include in their estimate the full price of installation included the cost of permits and inspections where required. Get your estimate in writing including job start, estimated completion date, number of people who will work on the job, payment policy, warranties on parts and labour.
  5. Ask each HVAC contractor you have to your home how long they have been in business, what the warranty they offer includes and who honours it, if they are bonded, how much liability insurance they carry and if they have payment plans. As well, inquire if they have 24 hour service available.
  6. Select the best HVAC contractor for your needs. Common sense dictates that the lowest price is not always your best value. Choose carefully based on the information provided and references given.
  7. When you have chosen an HVAC contractor for the job get a written contract and insist that all parties sign it.
