ENERGY
STAR is the gold star of energy efficiency. The
ENERGY STAR for New Homes pilot program in Ontario helps homeowners reduce
their energy costs by improving the energy efficiency of their home. Homes
that achieve the ENERGY STAR label have been independently verified to be at
least 40% more energy efficient than homes which are built to the minimum
building code standards for the province of Ontario. These savings are based
on the home’s heating and hot water use.

EnerGuide for New Homes
Similar to the EnerGuide label for household appliances, EnerGuide for New Homes is an energy efficiency rating developed by Natural Resources Canada used to compare the energy performance of similar-sized homes. The rating system determines the amount of air leaving the home and provides an estimate of the energy you can expect to use each year.

There are many other opportunities available to
increase the energy performance and comfort of your home. Ask your
builder about energy upgrade packages that have money-saving features
you will want to include in your new home. For example, you could
purchase a package to add extra insulation in the attic or basement.
Your builder will be able to explain the available energy saving options
to fit your budget.
