Have your utility lines and pipes marked for safety
Planning to build a new deck or fence? Under Ontario regulations, it's against the law to start a digging project without having natural gas and other utility lines located and marked for safety. Many people make the mistake of not taking precautions before they start digging and put themselves and others in harm's way.
Be smart
It's a fact – unsafe digging can damage pipes or utility lines and create a safety hazard or disrupt utility services to an entire neighbourhood.
Homeowners or their contractors who cause damage may be liable for the cost of repairs and could even incur a costly lawsuit if an adjacent property
is damaged or someone is injured. For these and other reasons, it’s important to be smart and arrange for a free utility line locate, no matter
how large or small your project is.
Be safe
Keep yourself and your neighbours safe by arranging for a free natural gas and utility line locate through Ontario One
Call at least one week before you start to dig. Ontario One Call, a call centre dedicated to receiving locate requests
on behalf of member utilities in Ontario, will relay your request to Union Gas or a designated service provider as well
as other participating member utilities. You’ll get a timely, free locate of the underground facilities so you can complete your project safely.
