Get Your Spring Check Up!

Maximize the health of your air conditioner and furnace

Like an annual visit to the doctor, an air conditioner and furnace
check up is great preventative maintenance. And as spring kicks
into gear, there’s no better time to ensure the health of your
air conditioner and furnace than by having a licensed HVAC
contractor perform a yearly maintenance check up.

Check up check list

Not only will a preventative maintenance check up help ensure your
family’s safety, any resulting repairs or improvements made to
increase efficiency will earn you additional energy and cost savings.

Here’s what you can expect from
an HVAC system check up:

  • Check thermostat settings
  • Review electrical connections and measure
    voltage and current on motors
  • Lubricate all moving parts
  • Check and clean the drain
  • Make sure the system starts and shuts
    off properly
  • Clean air conditioning coils
  • Check and refresh refrigerant levels
  • Clean blower parts
  • Check all gas connections
  • Clean or change air filters

Between check ups

Here are a few simple things you can
do before your next scheduled check
up to keep your system healthy:

  • Clean or change the furnace filter
  • Keep all air registers and returns
clear of furniture, rugs and drapes
  • Keep your outside air conditioning
unit clean with a gentle spray of water

Why it’s important to call before you dig

Homeowners often forego getting their utility lines marked, however, every digging job requires a utility line locate - even small projects like planting trees and shrubs! Digging or excavating can easily damage the network of gas pipes, cables and wires that extend under your property. In addition to the safety hazards digging can cause, potential damage could disrupt utility service to an entire neighbourhood.

For these reasons, it’s important to contact Ontario One Call at least one week before you dig. Ontario One Call will send someone to mark your property’s underground utility lines for free and subsequently, help prevent undesired consequences.

Call Ontario One Call for a free natural gas pipe location service at 1 800 400-2255 or visit on1call.com for more information.
