Union Gas Launches Energy Conservation Program for Families in Need

Through the "Helping Homes Conserve" program, participating families in Windsor, Hamilton and Sudbury can save up to $200 every year on their natural gas bill.

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - A new community energy saving program offered by Union Gas provides energy saving products and installation to qualified fixed or limited income households in Windsor, Hamilton and Sudbury.

The program, which launches on April 29, will provide each qualifying household with up to two energy efficient massage showerheads, foam pipe insulation, a programmable thermostat and a water-saving bathroom and kitchen aerator.  All products with the exception of the aerators will be installed by a professional technician. Combined, these products can provide families in need with up to $200 in savings every year on their natural gas bill.

"One-fifth of households in the lowest income bracket spend 13% or more of their budget on energy", said Elie Atme, District Manager, Union Gas. "Through the Helping Homes Conserve program, families are given a tool that will assist them to use energy more efficiently, which is the best way for consumers to insulate themselves from rising energy prices. This is particularly important for families who are trying to make ends meet."

"Through this program we are planning to reach out to 16,000 families in need in Hamilton, Sudbury and Windsor", said Sarah VanderPaelt, Director of Energy Conservation for Union Gas.  "Helping Homes Conserve is a win for them financially, and it improves the environment by saving energy."

This program is available to Union Gas customers on a fixed or limited income. Customers must have an account with Union Gas and have a natural gas-fuelled furnace and/or gas-fuelled water heater to be eligible.
