2008 saw great energy savings and incentives for Union Gas customers
In 2008, Union’s energywise program provided over $3 million in incentive funding to larger commercial and industrial customers for natural gas energy efficiency projects. Union’s energy efficiency program provides significant investments for new and retrofitted energy efficient equipment and technologies. These investments are yielding immediate returns and saving customers money as they use natural gas more efficiently.
Millions and tonnes of savings
These projects helped commercial and industrial customers reduce:
· natural gas consumption by more than 86 million cubic metres. The savings are equivalent to the average annual natural gas consumption of about 33,350 Ontario homes.
· natural gas bills. Union Gas estimates that this customer group saved over 3,000,000 GJs with over $18 million in their annual gas costs.
· emissions. Customers involved in the program lowered their CO2 emissions by over 166,000 tonnes and NOx emissions by over 141 tonnes. That's the equivalent to removing the annual emissions of over 45,000 cars.
· electricity consumption. These customers reduced their electricity consumption by over 3 million kwh/year, roughly the equivalent of taking 2,000 old fridges out of service.
· water consumption. Customers reduced their water consumption by 6,678,079,379 litres/year, roughly the equivalent to the volume of water held by over 66,000 average-sized swimming pools.
