Matching Gifts Program
For close to a century Union Gas, a Spectra Energy Company, has proudly supported our communities and employees through a comprehensive community relations program which includes volunteerism and charitable contributions that are strategic and provide the greatest benefit to the communities where we work and live.
At Union Gas, we have a passion for giving back to the communities where we live and work. It is one of the ways that we’re striving to meet our goal to be the partner of choice in communities.
Central to our commitment to vibrant communities is our ongoing support for the United Way through our annual corporate fundraising campaign.
Our record-breaking 2010 employee fundraising campaign raised more than $818,234, making it the largest annual United Way donation in the company’s 100-year history!
Each year our company fundraising campaign is led by a dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers. All individual employee and retiree donations made during the campaign are matched dollar-for-dollar by Union Gas’ parent company Spectra Energy – doubling the community benefit.
Through United Way, individuals and families in communities across Ontario have access to vital social services that quite simply change their living conditions for the better. By working together we can make lasting positive change and build a stronger community for all.
Volunteerism - Helping Hands In Action
Union
Gas employees are committed to working to enrich the quality of life in our
communities through active volunteerism and giving. Each
year through our Helping Hands in Action program, Union Gas volunteers roll
up their sleeves to assist charitable organizations across Ontario. Grants
provided by the Spectra Energy Foundation are used to purchase materials for
community improvement projects coordinated by Union Gas employees and
retirees, who in turn volunteer their time and labour to complete the
projects. In 2009, 97 community improvement projects were completed across
the province. Organizations benefited not only from our "sweat equity" but
over $89,000 in project-specific grants. Projects included the refurbishment and landscaping of
buildings for charitable organizations and schools, the construction of
playground areas, gazebos, camp shelters and walking trails, the
organization of clothing and food drives, the planting of trees in community
parks, and much, much more.
Union Gas is a matching gift company. Eligible donations made by employees and retirees are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Spectra Energy Foundation, thereby doubling the community benefit.
