Humidifiers

The right water makes all the difference

We think of water as a source of life, something we use countless times every day. It also can be thought of as a universal solvent because almost every material is soluble to some degree in water.

As a result, water can be contaminated by almost any material it comes in contact with, creating a mix of contaminants that are unique to each location.

Types of water and their risks

Four types of water can be used in humidifiers:

  • Potable water, more commonly called drinking, tap or well water

  • Softened water, created by an ion exchange process that removes or exchanges minerals

  • High-purity water, deionized or reverse osmosis treated, removing even more impurities

  • Boiler water, treated with anticorrosion chemicals so it won’t rust boilers and other equipment.
