Getting started with Natural Gas
Q How do I arrange for natural gas service for construction heat?
A Arranging for a service is simple:
Complete a Builder Service Request (BSR) form complete with firm and accurate foundation and occupancy dates and fax it to the Builder Attachment Centre at 866 772-2077 and include that construction heat is required.
If the foundation date changes, please ensure that you contact the Attachment Centre at 866 772-1045 to update this information.
You will receive a Service Installation Notice two days before the scheduled installation date. Contact the Attachment Centre by 5 p.m. on the day you receive the notice if your site is not ready for gas service.
Q How long does it take to have a service and meter installed and ready to use?
A Your service will be installed within 5 weeks of the foundation date and the meter will be set 4 days after the service is installed. In areas where joint trench and stub services installation methods are used, the 5 week installation window will not apply as normal coordination with other utilities will take place. In addition, services applied for in remote locations will also be exempt from this installation window and in cases where this is applicable you will be advised.
Larger load requirements may necessitate a longer lead time if a larger meter is required. As much lead time as possible is appreciated, so please incorporate this into your work plan schedule.
Q What site requirements are needed for service piping and meter set-up?
Foundation is poured and back filled with soil compacted to within 6 inches of final grade.
Gas meter location is clearly marked on the foundation ensuring proper clearances to building openings, etc.
Ensure running line from meter location to property line is free of construction materials, debris, etc.
Q How much does an installation cost?
A Generally, there is no charge for a natural gas line installation. The construction heaters will connect to the meter when it is installed by Union Gas, and flexible hoses will reach to where you need the heat. In multi-story situations, hard piping can be installed to connect heaters anywhere in the building.
Cost for renting natural gas heaters will vary with the size of the unit.
Please contact the rental companies directly for this information.
They are listed at our website at uniongas.com/builder and click on NG Equipment Rental.
Expect to receive your natural gas service within 5 weeks of the firm foundation date you have provided.
