NATURAL GAS IS COLOURLESS, odourless, and non-toxic. As a safety precaution, an artificial odour, somewhat like rotten eggs, is added to help detect even the smallest escape of natural gas.

NATURAL GAS HAS an excellent safety record. We work hard to keep it that way, and here is how you can help us.

IF YOU EVER THINK you smell a gas odour or hear a hissing sound of escaping gas, please do the following:

Indoors:

• Open all doors and windows

• Call Union Gas immediately from a neighbour’s home

• Don’t turn electrical switches or appliances, etc. on or off

• Don’t use lighters or matches and do not smoke

Outdoors:

• Call Union Gas immediately

• Keep clear of the area

• Don’t start any motors or motor vehicles near the area of the gas odour

• Don’t use lighters or matches and do not smoke

If you smell natural gas, call 1-877-969-0999 from a neighbour's home immediately!
