Natural Gas for Vehicles
Union Gas, as you may be aware, has exited the NGV business.
Union Gas had maintained a network of NGV refueling stations located throughout southwestern Ontario, which at its peak in the early 1990s, numbered 28 stations servicing approximately 9,000 vehicles that had the capacity to run on natural gas.
Despite our marketing, the incentives offered from the Federal and Provincial Governments for vehicles to convert to natural gas and the annual operating savings (natural gas costs about 55 cents a litre on an equivalent or comparative basis to gasoline), the number of vehicles using natural gas has dwindled down to less than 700 vehicles.
Unfortunately, the current NGV traffic simply could not support that many stations
Union Gas is working with customers to put them in touch with firms that provide and can install "Vehicle Refueling Appliances" that would enable an NGV owner to fill up right at their home or business overnight.
A private sector company, Clean Energy Fuels, is currently negotiating to purchase some of our NGV station assets and keep some of the NGV sites operational in the Union Gas area. For an update on available NGV stations, click here.
